A Message from Our Chairman Mohammed Jameel KBE

Dear Friends,

2020 - An Historic Milestone: 75 Years

As we began 2020, full of optimism for a new decade, we looked back on 2019 as a year of considerable achievement, and looked forward with anticipation to the year in which we celebrate the 75th anniversary of Abdul Latif Jameel and 75 years of our family’s philanthropy.

However, no-one could have foreseen how this year would change, so dramatically and so quickly – with tragic consequences for many.  The Associates across Abdul Latif Jameel and Community Jameel have contributed and achieved so much together again this year despite the uncertainties of 2020.   I am also humbled by the commitment and sacrifice of so many health workers around the world and by the pioneering work of the Jameel Institute, co-founded by Community Jameel and Imperial College, which has been such an active and positive part of the search for a solution.

From the visionary entrepreneurial start-up of my father, the late Abdul Latif Jameel, to the global diversified business and philanthropic initiatives of today; together, we have come a long way.

I am proud of the way in which we do business, and within this, our unwavering commitment to continuous improvement.  We have grown thoughtfully into a leading global business without ever compromising the original values (Respect, Improve, Pioneer and Empower) that our Founder believed were so important when he began this enterprise.  We are also celebrating 75 years of our family’s global philanthropic activities, which began in the 1940s and are today embodied in Community Jameel.  Looking back over the projects we have developed, we should all take pride in how we have provided long term support to some of the World’s less fortunate communities.  The philanthropic work my father started has touched the lives of hundreds of millions of people around the world, culminating (to date) with the award of the prestigious Nobel Prize for Economics to Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab at MIT.

Any anniversary this significant is not just about history; it is also about our future.

We continue to invest in a range of exciting areas, including the future of mobility, renewable energy, energy storage, water projects and health-tech.  We also continue apace with our philanthropic efforts to make a significant and positive difference in the world.  The commitment of our Associates, our partners and our customers has been central to our history.  It will also be central to our future.

As we build over the next 25 years towards our centenary year in 2045, I look forward to celebrating with you all.

Sincerely yours

Mohammed Jameel KBE
